Deer in Autumn

Reproduced art. Painted from Alex Saberi's Realm of the Deer photograph. When I painted this, it was actually meant to be cathartic from my memories of Malham, Yorkshire, UK. Our first field trip from the Masters course in 2006. I saw a lone deer and the ecosystem was completely magical! It was like I was in a different world altogether, like Peter Pan's Neverland... Painted this many months ago... I had to capture my memories somehow... 🙂 ❤️ Was a bit disappointed with this... I felt it didn't completely capture my memory... I enjoy painting cathartically more than reproducing work... Also, it wasn't Autumn then!

The Masai Herder

There is no Africa without the masai and the rest of it's people... I tried to create a silhouette of a group of masai, but it was difficult for me to visualise this... Only the lone masai I saw at one point when working in the field was in my memory to paint... Quite disappointed with this silhouette, even an ounce of it does no justice to the magic that is Africa, its wildlife and people... However, for me this is more.about recreating my memory and making memoirs of some magical times with nature, places and people... So here it is... ❤️

The Zebra

This is not an innovative painting, there are loads of such images I had seen from before, somehow my memory seems tainted by those images... I wasn't able to produce my authentic memory of the zebra 😔 even though it remains in my mind as the gentle, elegant herbivore of the African grasslands... ❤️

African Elephant Herd

Painted cathartically from my memory in Olpejeda Game Reserve. I even have a beautiful photograph of this. It's again something I had painted many months ago. The paper got a bit stuck on one side and ruined some parts of the painting...

The Black Rhinoceros

Think I messed up the background a bit though.. 😐 Painted cathartically from my memories of Kenya, and the African Black Rhino I was grateful to work on in 2006.

The Cheetah

More Kenya memories - the Cheetah... I had a magical moment when on field work - I saw a coalition of cheetah. Three of them, after feeding off a kill walk away from the carcass... They stopped for a moment and looked back at our Vehicle. All three of them. My memory is actually so vivid on that, but I couldn't paint it exactly... Anyhow, was a moment of magic... ❤️ I'm happy to be able to recreate at least some part of it ❤️❤️

Giraffe Mother with her Calf

The first time, I went to Kenya, I worked on giraffe... And while recording them and collecting data, we found a lone giraffe that was limping and seemed really distressed... We decided not to record her markings that day for we didn't want to intrude into her privacy... Good thing we moved away for we saw her the next day with a calf... She was at that time, in labour seemingly... But what a miracle it seemed like... Seeing them both together the next day... I'm grateful for nature to be witnessing such miracles... Painted now from my memory of that day... I did look up some giraffe images on Google for reference, as it was slightly difficult for me to remember and visualise their markings and where they start from... ❤️ I decided to name her asante' (thank you in Swahili)
